Better mobility for the centre of Barcelona

The Plaça Catalunya car park in Barcelona, managed by Bamsa, a company that Saba shares with Barcelona City Council, has had a new vehicle access in the northern part of the square since 29 April, located at the intersection of Passeig de Gràcia and Ronda de Sant Pere.

This opening represents a substantial improvement in the mobility of the surrounding area, helping to reduce both traffic jams and the associated CO₂ emissions.

With this new entrance lane - which will be compatible with the current exit lane – vehicles coming from the Ronda de Sant Pere and Passeig de Gràcia, which previously had to drive much farther along streets like Balmes, Pelai, and the Ronda Universitat, will encounter less traffic helping this way to relieve congestion on these thoroughfares.

Additionally, the new access will lead to a more balanced distribution of traffic within the car park, improving internal circulation and avoiding traffic jams and the concentration of vehicles in the southern area. Users will have access to the closest point to their destination, optimising time and distances. This will provide a more efficient and agile service.

The new access will occupy one of the existing exit lanes and will be reversible: on specific dates such as Christmas, Sant Jordi, major events or demonstrations, among others, it can be used again as an exit lane to facilitate traffic flow.
